Wallpaper over wood paneling?

I am moving into a new apartment August 1st, and while everything is amazing- my bedroom isn't. The top half of the walls is white, then there is a wood strip followed by ugly wood "paneling" (I say it's plywood) that goes the rest of the way down the to the floor. My landlord said I could cover it so long as it doesn't "damage the wood." I found removable wallpaper at Sherwin Williams and am a little nervous sticking it to the wood, even though it says it "removes cleanly." Does anyone have any experience with this on wood or any alternatives to covering the paneling?
